History Faculty Awarded 2025-2026 Neubauer Collegium Faculty Research Projects

The Neubauer Collegium announced the 2025-26 Faculty-led Research Projects and two history faculty, Dipesh Chakrabarty and Gabriel Winant, are among the awardees.
Dipesh Chakrabarty will be working with Philip Bohlman (Music), Anna Schultz (Music), Lars-Christian Koch (Humboldt Forum of Berlin), Amit Chaudhuri (Ashoka University, India), and Saymon Zakaria (Bangla Academy, Bangladesh) on "Sonic Borderlands of South Asia." Part of an International Balzan Prize project, the initiative will "integrate music and dance performance as part of a large initiative to explore the connections among varied forms of sonic encounter across borderlands in South Asia."
Together with Ben Laurence (Philosophy), Steven Klein (King’s College London), Alex Gourevitch (Brown University), and Mie Inouye (Bard College), Gabriel Winant will be conducting a project titled, "The Political Theory of Labor Unions: Solidarity, Class Identity, and Organizing across Difference," which "brings together political theorists, philosophers, and historians to explore questions about unions’ institutional structures, political visions, and organizing strategies."
